Grand Hotel Domine Bilbao

The contemporary Silken Gran Hotel Domine is located in central Bilbao, Spain, opposite the Guggenheim Museum. The Museum of Fine Arts, Old Town, Santiago Cathedral and Plaza Nueva square are within one kilometre. Bilbao Airport (BIO) is 10 kilometres away.

Hotel Features.

The Silken Gran Hotel Domine is a modern design hotel reflecting the Guggenheim Museum in its mirror-like facade. Public spaces, guestrooms, original artworks and even staff uniforms were designed, or chosen, by artist Javier Mariscal. The glass-topped atrium houses Mariscal's 'Cypress Fossil' sculpture, a 26-metre-high tower of mesh-encased stones.

Buffet breakfast is served on the glass-roofed Buenavistas Terrace with outdoor seats and Guggenheim views from the hotel's top floor. Minimalist décor, and international and Basque dishes are on the menu at Beltz the Black restaurant. The black and white Bauhuas-inspired Café Metropol has marble floors, stainless steel and glass walls overlooking the Guggenheim's huge floral-coated 'Puppy' sculpture. Mariscal Pop Art, red-cushioned stools, and white plastic chairs give a 1960s feel to Splash and Crash cocktail lounge. Its silver floor and bar were inspired by the Guggenheim's titanium exterior.

The business centre has a computer with high-speed Internet access (surcharge).

With a wall of curved beech and an open fireplace, the hotel's reading room is stocked with architecture and design publications.

Guestrooms.

The Silken Gran Hotel Domine's 145 air-conditioned guestrooms have designer furnishings. All offer minibars, satellite television, safes and wireless Internet access (surcharge). Most rooms have Guggenheim or atrium sculpture views.

Expert Tip.

The hotel's designer Javier Mariscal was also responsible for the logo of Barcelona's 1992 Summer Olympics.
